PAN CARD

Types of PAN Cards in India and Their Forms

PAN CARD
May 13, 2023 Alankit

A PAN card is now more of a primary form of identification than a document used only for income tax filing and payment. Furthermore, getting a PAN card or changing it is easy because the PAN card application and correction can be handled using the same form: 49A.

Incorrect information in your PAN can lead to future complications. As a result, it is suggested that any errors or discrepancies in your PAN be resolved at the earliest.

The Permanent Account Number (PAN) Card is a ten-digit alpha-numeric number assigned to you by the Income Tax Department that allows you to make large-scale tax payments and serves as identity evidence.

The people who are eligible for a PAN Card are:

  • Resident Individuals
  • Companies
  • Foreign Individuals
  • Minors
  • Partnerships

Advantages of a PAN Card

Necessary for All Communications and Payments

An individual must have a unique PAN number in order to obtain a tax refund, pay tax, submit tax deducted at source or tax collected at source, and so on.

Valid Identity Proof

A PAN card serves as a legal identity verification throughout the country. It includes all necessary information such as name, date of birth, photograph, signature, etc.

Enables Verification of Payments

A PAN card ensures that all of an individual's payments are grouped under their PAN number, making it easy to verify their payments.

A PAN card is mandatory for Financial Transactions

Certain financial operations, such as selling and purchasing automobiles other than two-wheelers, applying for a credit or debit card, opening a Demat account with SEBI, and so on, require a PAN card.

Registration of Businesses

An entity such as a company, a firm, a HUF, etc., cannot register their businesses without a PAN card.

Types of PAN Card

e-PAN

It denotes the immediate allocation of PAN to first-time taxpayers. Because of the increased number of people applying for PANs, the idea of a quick PAN Card came into action.

PAN

It represents the standard procedure where a person applies for their PAN Card through Form 49A and undergoes the manual submission of the documents to the PAN Centre managed by the Income Tax Department and receives their PAN Card in 3-10 days.

PAN Correction Form

It refers to the corrections/changes needed in the PAN Card and removes any limitation for further use in documentation or bank-related process (if any).

PAN Card Forms

There are two types of PAN card forms, i.e., Form 49A and Form 49AA.

Form 49A: Indian nationals are required to complete Form 49A. Minors and students can apply for a PAN card by completing form 49A.

Form 49AA: Foreign nationals who want to obtain a PAN card in India must complete Form 49AA. Both forms include the applicant's Assessing Officer (AO) code, name, address, e-mail address, phone number, and other information.
