How Long Will It Take For A PAN Card Correction?

The Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a unique ten-digit alphanumeric code issued by the Income Tax Department to all taxpayers in India, under the Income Tax Act of 1961. The PAN is mentioned on a PAN card which is in the form of a laminated plastic card. It serves as a vital document and identity proof for all individuals and entities for carrying out any kind of financial transaction in India. It can be obtained through an online pan application facility implemented by the I-T Department or through TIN Facilitation Centres (TIN-FCs) for PAN related services.

The processing time for PAN card correction

After successful submission of the application forms at the PAN department, an acknowledgment slip is sent to applicants from Alankit. Initially, applicants would receive a message stating that the application is under process. After successful processing, they would receive a message stating that the application has been accepted and that the PAN card would be dispatched shortly. The right way to make corrections in PAN card

• Filling the application form: A pan card application form is available on the website of Alankit Limited. There are two kinds of forms for pan card application namely Form 49A for Indian Citizens and Indian companies within India; and Form 49AA for entities and individuals residing outside India. The applicant must thoroughly read the instructions and duly fill the form with relevant details to avoid errors or overwriting.

• Submitting documents for verification: After filling the form, the applicant must carefully provide his or her signature in the designated box and must avoid giving any unwanted information. Along with the pan card change form, relevant documents should be furnished for verification which includes latest passport-sized photographs, proof of identity (POI) and valid proof of address (POA) issued by the government. Foreign citizens, within or outside India, should provide valid documents viz. citizenship identification number or passport copy or copy of PIO card, etc. to sustain their applications.

• Paying Processing Fee: Applicants must pay the processing fee for revision or any kind of change in PAN card. The amount ranges from Rs 107 to Rs 120 (all inclusive) for Indians and around Rs. 1,040 for residing outside India.

Instead of submitting forms online, applicants can first download the application form and fill in the details, then submit the same at the nearest Nearest TIN Facilitation Center (TIN-FC) of Alankit. The forms can be submitted at Alankit offices located in various cities across the country. They are then collected, reviewed and forwarded to the National Securities Depository Limited, PAN Department.
