PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a 10-character unique identification alphanumeric number consisting of both numbers and alphabets, allotted to Indians by the Income Tax Department. The PAN represents a unique identity to every taxpayer in the country. Through the unique identifier, all tax-related information for an individual is recorded against a single PAN. A PAN consists of important details of an Indian citizen such as Name, Date of Birth, Address, Phone no. and a photograph. No two individuals on tax paying entities can possess the same PAN and it is valid for lifetime.
Understanding the PAN Card Application Forms:
There are mainly two types of PAN Applications prescribed:
49A: 49A is the Application Form required by Indian citizens and NRIs (including companies, partnership firms, trusts, NGOs, local bodies, trusts, etc.)
49AA:49AA Application Form is required by individuals and entities outside of India.
How to get form 49A:
Indian citizens or entities are required to download the PAN Application Form online from the Alankit website in PDF format. Print the form, fill it and submit the physical copy of the Application Form at any of the TIN-FCs or PAN Centres managed by the Income Tax Department.
The applicant needs to fill all the required fields mentioned in the Form and attach the scanned copies of Proof of identity and address and other relevant documents.
Information to be filled in the PAN Application Form
- Fields marked with * symbol to be mandatorily filled (only in English)
- Last name, Middle name, and First name to be filled in the respective boxes
- Alias to be filled, if any
- Gender to be specified
- Date of Birth to be entered
- Details of parents and spouse to be filled (if asked)
- Mother’s/Father’s name to be specified (this will be printed on the PAN Card)
- Address (available on the address proof) to be provided. Also, communication address to be indicated
- Other contact information such as contact number, e-mail address to be provided
- Source of income to be mandatorily indicated. Also, it is necessary to provide a professional code.
Regarding Payments
To process PAN Cards within the country, an applicant is required to pay a fee of INR 110. If you are submitting the physical copy of the Application Form, then you can make the payment in cash at TIN-FCs or PAN Centres authorized by Alankit.
Upon successful submission of PAN Application Form, applicant will receive an acknowledgement number to track the PAN application status.
The PAN card will be sent to the applicant's residential address within 10 business days.
