Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojna (MGPSY)

Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) has introduced a Pension and Life Insurance fund scheme called Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojna (MGPSY) with an objective to encourage and enable the overseas Indian workers by giving Govt. contribution. The contributions can be availed by overseas Indian workers having Emigration Check required passports.

Eligibility:
  • ECR Passport and a valid work permit or employment contract in an ECR country.

  • Age 18 to 50 years old

  • Bank account in own name•

The main attractions of the scheme:
  • Government contribution of Rs.1,000 per annum in line with Swavalamban platform for all MGPSY subscriber who save between Rs.1,000 and Rs.12,000 per year in NPS-Lite.

  • An additional Government contribution of Rs.2,000 per annum by MOIA for the overseas Indian women workers who save between Rs.1,000 to Rs.12,000 per year in NPS-Lite.

  • An additional Government contribution of Rs.1,000 per annum by MOIA for the overseas Indian men workers who save between Rs.1,000 to Rs.12,000 per year in NPS-Lite.

  • A special Government contribution of Rs.900 by MOIA towards Return and Resettlement (R&R) of the overseas Indian workers who save Rs.4,000 or more per annum.

  • MGPSY is a voluntary scheme with subscriber joining this scheme on his/her own discretion.

  • MGPSY offers all the three Partner schemes in the form of a package and not in isolation. That is, subscribers have to opt in all three partner schemes if he wishes to subscribe in MGPSY and registration in MGPSY will stand canceled if subscriber fails to get registered in any of the three sub schemes.

Benefits offered to the subscribers:

The scheme offers three important benefits to help the skilled and unskilled workers to save money for their old age, to have financial means when they go back home and a free life insurance cover during their work abroad. - Pension in old age through the PFRDA regulated NPS- Lite - Savings for Return and Resettlement (R & R) through the UTI Monthly Income Scheme (MIS) - A term life insurance cover of Rs. 30,000/- per year against natural death and Rs. 75,000/- against death by accident through LIC.

The benefits from MOIA will be provided for a maximum period of 5 years or for the period of overseas employment – whichever is less.
